Campbell to lead Scots Senior Men

Tom Campbell, one of the most successful coaches in the country during the last 3 decades, is the new Head Coach of Scotland Senior Men.

Having led the Scotland Junior Men for the past 10-years, competing against some of the best in Europe including Italy and Greece, Campbell will take up the Senior post following the completion of this summer's preparation and competition programme which culminates in European B Division championships in August.

The target for the Senior programme over the next 3-years will be to win the European C Division Championships and progress toward competing regularly against Euro B standard opposition. Scotland finished 3rd in the 2008 European C Championships.

Prior to his current role, Tom also had 10-years involvement with Scotland Senior Men, including stints as Assistant Coach under Allan Turner and Ian Gordon as Scotland competed in European qualifiers and Commonwealth Championships.

Campbell commented; “My appointment as Head Coach of the Scotland Senior Men’s team fulfils a long-held ambition. It will give me the opportunity to work with some of the players who have progressed through the ranks in the last 10 years during my tenure as Head Coach of Scotland Junior Men. I am looking forward to the challenge.”

On the domestic front, Campbell has won every title available in Men's basketball, from S1 Schools Cup with Cumnock Academy and Marr College through to the Senior Scottish League and Cup success with Troon Tornadoes.

Kevin Pringle, basketballscotland Chief Executive Officer, commented: “We are delighted to secure Tom's appointment to this post. Tom will bring his demonstrated ability to build a quality programme. We are confident Tom is the right man to drive the programme forward”.

Alongside the appointment, basketballscotland have also formally confirmed the extension of the under-20 squad to under-23 for the remainder of the season. This move is to allow the extended group of athletes to continue to develop and compete until Campbell completes his Junior Men commitments.
