It is with great sadness that basketballscotland learned of the passing away of t he England Basketball Patron, Mr Keith Mitchell, OBE, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at his home in Shipley, West Yorkshire.
A former President and Chair of the English Basketball Association and a former Chair of the British and Irish Basketball Federation, Mr Mitchell’s 50-plus years of service to the sport saw him take on numerous roles with a passion and persistence matched by few.

Keith was an internationally (FIBA) qualified referee and commissioner who officiated at both the Olympic Games and the World Championships.
Off the court, Mr Mitchell served on countless organisations that promoted the growth and development of basketball in England, Britain, and worldwide. Many of these positions were purely voluntary leaving little doubt as to his dedication to the sport.
Many in Scottish basketball will have come across Keith over the years and our condolences are with his family at this time.
