Child Protection

basketballscotland believes it is essential for clubs who involve young people to have Child Protection Policies and Procedures in place. Formal procedures and regulations must be in place to protect your junior and vulnerable members and also to protect the coaches and volunteers.

The introduction of the Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003 has increased the need for clubs to adopt and implement Child Protection Policies and Procedures. This act requires all organisations to check and see if people are disqualified from working with children and the only method of checking this is to process a Disclosure Scotland check on all staff and volunteers who will have “childcare” duties.  Childcare duties are defined by law and include positions "whose normal duties include caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of children".

basketballscotland has developed a child protection programme that will enable clubs to implement child protection policies and procedures to ensure that they are providing a safe environment for young children.
